Is beauty really "nothing" as Astrid believes? Does it only mean something if "you intend to use it" (
W.O., pg. 301)? Is it otherwise "just something for people to use and admire, or envy and despise" (pg. 301)? Is it something for the beautiful "to nail their dreams onto"? Does Astrid only undervalue beauty because, as Paul says, she's "'never been ugly'"(pg. 301)? From your perspective, what is the true value of beauty?

ReplyDeleteBeauty really isn't nothing beauty can be many things. Beauty doesn't just mean something if you use it it always means something. Sometimes Beauty is just something to use and admire, because not many people use it correctly. beauty is used sometimes for despise and to some people nail their dreams to it. Astrid probly undervalues beauty because she just doesn't care anymore. In conclution beauty can be many things but it is all the way that someone takes it.

ReplyDeleteFrom my perspective of the comment "never be ugly" is an act, they don't physically have to look ugly to be ugly.To begin, the reason people say that is because you could be the most gorgeous person the world and have a snobby attitude and have anybody think they are ugly. For example one day my mom said "stop being ugly" and I definetly thought that she was calling me ugly, then, she explained to me that she meant the way I was acting was very ugly because I was being very disrespectful and talking with a bunch of attitude. In conclusion, i do thing beauty is nothing. you have to prove that you are beautiful to have beauty.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Astrid. Beauty is useless if you don't want it or don't know how to use it. That is what I think about Astrid's idea of beauty.

ReplyDeleteI think that beauty is something but it is not everything. I think that beauty is something that everybody wants but no one really needs. I think that Astrid does not undervalue beauty.

ReplyDeleteThe true value of beauty to me, is pretty much being happy. If you are happy you can see beauty in everything, or make beauty out of something. Beauty is what you make it, and the way you make yourself see things. People who are negative about everything can never see anything in an opitimistic way. There for, beauty and happiness are the keys to life

ReplyDeletebeauty comes from with in. astrid doesnt think she is beautiful just because the stuff she has been put through, when really it doesnt matter how you look on the outside if you in side is genuine and good than you are beautiful no matter what. she says she isnt beautiful because she is to the point where she does not care about anything anymore. she is in a state of not caring.

The value of beauty is not what you look like I think beauty is your feelings, your inside beauty thats the best beauty ever!

ReplyDeleteI dont think that beauty is everything. It doesn't mean anything even you intend to use it. The personality is what really counts. I think that people do abuse the power of the beauty that when the girls wear pretty bad stuff just to show off.

In my opinion, beauty is nothing like Astrid believes. Beauty can't determine what anyone is like on the inside.

ReplyDeleteInner beauty is something. I believe people it is something it be used and admired, or envy and despise. Mainly because of how it's portrayed to us on t.v. If we aren't skinny or "pretty" then we aren't good enough. It targets girls most, but it also targets guys. Maybe Paul is right, maybe Astrid undervalues beauty because she's never been ugly. The true value of beauty? I guess would be getting things easier, or being more socially excepted than someone who isn't as outterly attractive or excepted.

ReplyDeleteBeauty is something because people will just look at your face and how well you dress. I think that Astrid is just mad because she isn't like the other girls. She believes that beauty is nothing because of what she have gone through. Therefore I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I don't believe that astrid thinks that. I do think it is something for people to use and admire.i do not think that it is something for the beautiful "to nail their dreams onto.I think beauty is what you are in the inside and what you show. Not the way you look.
