How are memories valuable and/or detrimental? Are they guideposts that can help people live their daily lives? Are they suggestions about how people should look at the future? Are they anchors that keep people tied to the past in both good and bad ways? How do Astrid's memories operate in
White Oleander? Is this a good indicator of how memories work for most people? Are memories a necessity and/or a plague and why?

ReplyDeleteI would say that memories are invaluable. People do not need memories to live through their lives. You do not need memories to think about the future, and think about the consequences of their actions. They keep you tied to the past, which is almost always bad. Even if it is a good memory, it reminds you of something you no longer have. Astrid's memories do nothing but makes her sad. This is an accurate representation of how memories work in the real world. Therefore, I believe memories are a plague and nothing more.

ReplyDeleteMemories are essential to a persons life. They are what anchor us to who we are, and remind us of what we've done and learned. If you forget all your memories you'll feel lost in your life. All the things you do; you wont remember, so it wouldn't matter what you do anymore. I think Astrid's memories are precious to her. Although I would think they make her sad to think about, they remind her of who she is and what she's been through.

ReplyDeletehow memories are valuable is that they can never be taken away from you no matter how hard someone tries. They are also like guidepost because I use my memory to set my alarm clock at night. They can be suggestions to so you know not to do something a certain way or to do it another way.

ReplyDeleteMemories are valuable or detrimental because they can be good or bad. They can be guideposts to help people live their lives but they also can't. They most of the time keep people in the past in good and bad ways. Astrid's memories are mostly bad but some are good. Memories are a necessity because otherwise you wont remember anything from when you were younger.

ReplyDeleteMemories are valuable because without memories you would just continue to make the same mistakes. I think definitely yes you do need memories to think about the future, and the consequences of my our actions. They do keep you "tied" to the past but you chose to let them effect you in a negative way. Astrid chooses to let her memories make her sad, she should grow from them. Finally, I just want to say memories can be a burden but they are in the past and they only affect you if you let them.

ReplyDeleteMemories are valuable because they could be precious to any one. Some memories are guideposts to live your life but some aren't. I think that they are not a way to look at future because it's just things that you did in the past. They are anchors because they keep people in check. Astrid's memories are good because she knows how to survive. This is a good indicator of memories because people can see if they made the right chose. Memories are plague because some might not have good memories of their life.

ReplyDeleteMemories are what remind you of where you've been and what you have been through. Memories can make you remember not to make certain mistakes or they remind you of what you love. Astrid has her memories for her to know that she needs to go somewhere in life because of what she has been through. That she has been through so much and if she gave up she would have gone through everything for no reason. all in all i believe that memories are necessity.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I think that memories are very much important. To begin, sometimes when people have a death in the family they tend to think about all the good times they have. All the memories they have to live with, some may be good and some may be bad. Furthermore, they may have some affect on them. Astrid's memories really didn't do anything to her, maybe those memories mean nothing to her.In conclusion, I think that memories are detrimental to some.

ReplyDeleteI agree with 11 because we would make the same mistakes if we didn't remember the mistakes

Your Paragraph made me melancholy, but it was very well put. Very deep.

ReplyDeleteyes and no memories are valuable because you can hold on to good memories and also some memories you would want to have

ReplyDeleteI disagree with with 10, memories don't keep you tied to the past, they remind you of who you are and what you have been through. Sometimes memories can keep you out of bad situations again. Astrid's memories show her that she is a strong person and to turn back now would be useless.

You would continue to make the same mistakes over and over. I think that would make life way more sad and unpleasant to live than a memory that you can grow from. Wouldn't you say?

i say that memories are invaluable. the reason why i say memories are invaluable is because some people only rely on good memories. i believe that some memories are guideposts that help some people live their daily lives.i believe that some memories can be suggestions about how people should look at the future. unless they are childhood memories. i think there are anchors that keep people tied to the past in both good and bad ways. Astrid's memories operate in White Oleander when she thinks about her mom that is in jail and when she was with clare. i think this is this a good indicator of how memories work for most people. I think memories are not a necessity or a plague and the reason why I say that is because some people don't need memories to live there lives.
4.comp#104-05 In my own words i think memories are valuable because they let us remember the good times or the bad times we have had in life. Astrid had some bad memories and sum good but to some people memories mean nothing. Astrid would probably care less about her memories.

ReplyDeleteThe reason why memories are valuable is because they can contain important events or something more important. But in some cases they can have harmful effects to certain people. Astrid's memories in White Oleander help to teach her about many things. I personally believe that this isn't that good of an indicator for memories for most people. I also believe that memories are primarily a necessity and occasionally a plague.

ReplyDeleteMemories are valuable in many ways. I do believe that memories help people with their daily lives. It also may break a person down, not all past memories can be good. Nobody has a perfect life. people can have memories that drag on through the rest of their life. Then again people have memories from their past that help them reach their goals, and make them want to do better things in life. I wouldn't say that memories are a necessity in life, it's more of a plague, mainly because you can't help but remember the memories you have or the things you have gone through. Memories are good indicators in life because it can help tell what you should and shouldn't do in life. In conclusion memories are important for many reason, they shape your life, make you think about your future, and protect yourself against things you may come to in life.
